Guide to the Church of the Rosario part V.

Sixth Chapel on the left.

Built in 1643. Set in the ancon flanked by columns in imitation marble culminating in Corinthian capitals is the painting depicting the Incredulity of Saint Thomas, a reproduction painted by Alessandro Candi of Cento (Cento 1780-Ferrara 1066) after the original was moved to the municipal picture gallery (Pinacoteca Civica) of Cento.

The original was painted by Bartolomeo Gennari (Cento 1594-Bologna 1661) in 1645 on commission of "D. Tommaso, son of Giuseppe Bonamici, called Soprani of Cento".

The copy is absolutely faithful to the original, but is lifeless in lines and colours.

Assiunption of Our Lady into Heaven.

In 1640 the painting by Cuercino depicting the Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven was placed in the centre of the vault. Painted in Pome around 1622 for the Old Rosary, the painting is now in a higher position than originally and the view from below therefore looks proportionally distorted.

Nevertheless, you can just see the naturalness of the Virgin who in her dynamic upward spiral embraces the entire heavenly vault animated by the flight of the angels and dominated by the dove of the Holy Spirit.
